SEVERAL businesses in Bishop's Stortford town centre have been affected by a power cut this morning (Thursday, June 27).

According to UK Power Networks, 17 customers in the North Street and Bridge Street area, including the Observer office, The Star pub, The Lemon Tree restaurant and Rickmores Vac Centre, lost power at around 10.30am. Sun Trap sunbed and beauty shop in South Street was also affected.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: "Our engineer worked on site to restore power by 11.45am.

"We believe all properties now have power restored but would encourage anyone with a problem to call us on 0800 7838868."

A separate fault in the area also affected nine customers yesterday.

The spokeswoman continued: "An underground cable fault affected supplies to nine customers at 9.30am yesterday and most were restored throughout yesterday but we needed access to the final property today.

"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused."
