The money is being divided between Help for Heroes and The Injured Soldiers Plan - 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) at Carver Barracks, Wimbish.

Attractions included a display of sword-fighting and dancing by members of the Medieval Combat Society, music from the Jamie Fallon Band and Irish singer Eamon Carey, and Paul Lillie, dubbed Britain’s number one Elvis tribute artist.

The raffle was drawn by and auction conducted by John Black from Sworders auctioneers.

The lots included a print of a photograph of the Battle of the Sluice Gate – an operation the Royal Marines were involved in at Helmand Province in Afghanistan.

One of those  featured – former Royal Marine Stephen Atkinson from Sawbridgeworth – attended the event on Saturday (July 17).

Organiser Dawn Batty said: “There was an amazing atmosphere and everyone had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect and you could not ask for any more.”
