NINE new arrivals were welcomed to the world at Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital on Christmas Day – and five came from families in the Observer area.

Among them was the baby son of a carpenter – but this time he was from Much Hadham, not Nazareth!

Robert and Caroline Lucas, of High Street, received the “best Christmas present ever” when William Edward was born at 12.22pm – two days early – weighing 7lb 9oz.

Robert, 46, who works as a carpenter across East Herts, said he had already received a cheeky text from a friend who described William as the Second Coming!

Caroline, 38, who went into labour at 2am, works as a cognitive behaviour therapist and was able to use her wellness techniques to help with the water birth. Mum and baby were home by 8pm – 12 hours after entering hospital.

Another delighted mum was Natalie Rose, 18, of Prestwick Drive, Bishop’s Stortford, who gave birth to 9lb 6oz first child Aiden at 5.51pm. She was joined by proud dad Jamie Day, 19.

Dunmow accountant Kirsty Baker also welcomed the first new addition to her family after daughter Polly was born at 11.35am. The 35-year-old, who lives on the town’s Woodlands Park estate with husband Simon, 41, gave birth to a 7lb 11oz bundle of joy. Kirsty said: “We hope she’ll grow up to be clever like her mum and dad, and just be successful and happy.”

Saffron Walden toddler James Manning, 3, was thrilled finally to greet baby brother Richard a few days after he was born at 2.27am. A planned home birth went well for parents Jonathan, 35, and Arabella, 34, but their 7lb 14oz son was taken to PAH afterwards. The couple have put their festive celebrations on hold until they return from hospital this week.

Also among this year’s Christmas Day parents at PAH were Jessica Gibbs and Ben Thurley, of Bell Street, Sawbridgeworth. Baby Mollie Rose, born at 1.46pm, tipped the scales at 5lb 12oz.
