FAIRY Caz Day at Bishop’s Stortford High School – a fund-raiser held in memory of former pupil Caroline Johnstone – was far from a drag.
The highlight was undoubtedly the Miss TBSHS contest, when sixth-form boys took to the catwalk, many wearing bikinis and gold tiaras.
They collected money in their handbags as staff and fellow pupils cheered them on. Ed Bass from Year 12 won the title. Other attractions included a sponsored leg-wax for the boys and one student earned £10 from his form tutor for having his armpits waxed.
There was also a 1st XV rugby triathlon and an old boys’ rugby match.
Caroline, who lived in Chapel Lane, Little Hadham, was a Year 13 student who died from cardiac failure in 2008 aged 17.
The charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young – has been adopted as the school’s sixth form charity.
Head of sixth form Mark Barrow said: “It was wonderful to see the upper school community coming together again this year to raise money for CRY in memory of Caz.”
Music festival Cazfest will be held on July 4 at Jobbers Wood, the playing fields of the Stortford High School in Great Hadham Road.
