The ‘Cheer for Cheer’ day was organised by friends of fun-loving sixth-former Alex Cheer, who died suddenly from an aneurysm on November 3.

A host of activities was arranged on Wednesday (Feb 24), from netball and golf competitions to an assault course and cake sale. The youngsters also ditched their school uniforms in favour of fancy dress.

All the money raised will be donated to Alex’s favourite charity Help for Heroes. The 17-year-old schoolboy, who lived in Harlow, was a staunch supporter of the Armed Forces.

He was a star cadet with the Air Training Corps, serving as a sergeant with 414 (Epping & North Weald) Squadron, and hoped to become a paramedic.
