Tesco aiming to win top employer award

TESCO is in the running for a key prize in the retail sector’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Alongside high street stalwarts B&Q, Asda, Boots, Morrisons, Pets at Home, Sainsbury’s, the Cheshunt-based supermarket giant is vying for Deloitte Employer of the Year accolade at the Oracle Retail Week Awards 2012.

The award recognises employers who tirelessly develop the skills of their employees and ensure their stores are happy places to work.

In its nomination Tesco was praised for its pension and share schemes and staff privilege discount card.

Deputy editor of Retail Week George MacDonald said: “The initiatives developed by the retailers shortlisted for this award are just a selection of the genuine commitment undertaken by retailers to put people at the heart of their overall strategy.”

The awards take place in March.
