A chance for free solar panels on your home
A scheme is giving homeowners in Hertfordshire and Essex the opportunity to have solar panels installed on their property – for free!
The green initiative has been set up by businessmen and entrepreneurs Paul Williams and Ben Way, who met after appearing on Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire show. The pair have set up the venture, Freetricity, to give a total of 2,400 homeowners in Herts and Essex the chance to have free solar panels fitted on their home.
Not only that, those who sign up won’t have to maintain the panels and will still benefit from reduced energy bills, as well as the feel-good factor that comes with helping the environment.
Paul Williams, Freetricity’s CEO, said: “If every homeowner eligible for free solar panels in Essex put them on their homes, this would be equivalent to planting 2.7 million trees and over 25 years those homeowners would save a total of £1 billion!”
Totally free, you ask? Surely there must be a hidden clause? Paul promises there isn’t: “This offer is completely free to the homeowner and I hope it will persuade people who are interested in reducing their carbon footprint but concerned about cost, that solar is a genuinely viable alternative to traditional energy sources.”
He argues that Freetricity could save you up to 40 per cent on your electricity bills, and aside from the fact there is a limit to how many people can sign up to the scheme, there really isn’t a catch.
Chief technical officer Ben Way added: “This really is a fantastic offer for homeowners in the county. We launched in Surrey a couple of months ago, and this deal has been so popular we decided to start rolling the business out across the South East so that others could benefit from it.
Freetricity is being backed by Lombard Finance and Paul and Ben have also set up a partnership with AVC Group for installation purposes. Ben said: “It really is a case of sign up before it’s too late!”
