A CHICKEN kidney dished up at the Birchanger Green branch of KFC was “perfectly safe to eat”, according to the district’s food safety bosses.

Last week, the Observer reported how 18-year-old student Leanne Evener had chomped into the giblet after ordering portions of chicken from the fast food outlet at the Welcome Break M11 service station.

The incident left her so disgusted that she threw up shortly afterwards, but environmental health authority Uttlesford District Council has confirmed there were no dangerous bugs on the fried organ.

KFC offered to collect the specimen, which it identified as a kidney, but Ms Evener chose to send it off for independent tests. The global giant has since apologised and contacted her to make a “gesture of goodwill”.

In northern Ireland in castledawson there's a KFC that has given my brother food poisoning twice. Also one worker was recently fired for spitting in the gravy. Happy eating!

It may well be safe to eat but would you order it? I think not! What a "fowl" thing to find in your meal!

I'm a veterinarian. Kidneys are a naturally occuring organ in that part of the chicken. Grow up people...your meat comes from a once living animal. It has parts!

I found one in my KFC purchased from their Camden branch in London earlier this year. I contacted KFC and sent them the specimen, only to be told that it had decomposed to such an extent that tests could not be carried out. They offered me a 'gesture of good will' which consisted of a voucher for a large KFC meal! Thanks KFC!
