BUNTINGFORD grandma Gwen Church cared for her late husband Ernest for 15 years until his death in 2001.
Now she looks after their disabled daughter Sally and after her police officer son Kevin was killed in a road accident five years ago, she helps to support his young son, Mason
When Gwen was made redundant from her job as a carer, her clients asked her to continue to care for them privately.
Nominator Stan Glazebrook was on hand to see Gwen receive her award.
Gwen, 71, of Greenways, who was runner-up in last year’s awards, said: "It’s really lovely, I am overwhelmed. I can't believe it.
"When Stan lost his wife, I knew what he was going through. He has always said I’m like a daughter to him and his wife always said the same."
And she was delighted with her prize of a decorator to renovate her kitchen and a new tumble dryer.
Highly commended was partially-sighted Dennis Baker, who lives at Beane River View in Hertford.
Everyone in the sheltered accommodation complex all regard Dennis as a wonderful neighbour, as he tends to their gardens and to the hanging baskets and plants around the grounds.
He also sees to any jobs that need to be done or errands that need to be run, such as fixing TVs and fetching prescriptions
