STANSTED Airport is operating normally today (Monday, February 6) after an estimated 6.5 inches (17cm) of snow at the weekend.
On Saturday, after the blizzard began, eight flights were diverted to the Uttlesford hub, and, later, 12 flights were diverted away so the runway could be cleared between 10pm and 11.45pm.
On Sunday the runway remained open all day, however 16 departures – all Ryanair - were cancelled owing to delays and airlines protecting their schedules, plus the knock-on effects of the adverse weather across the UK and Europe.
The snowfall from 8pm on Saturday night is estimated to be around 50 per cent more than the last deluge at the end of 2010.
