The event takes place at Hatfield Forest on September 25 and organisers want as many people to sign up as possible so they can continue supporting those affected by the disease and their families in the Observer area.

Whether participants walk in memory of a lost loved one, for someone who has benefited from Helen Rollason’s services or just for fun, all the money raised will make a difference to people in the community.

Walkers will be guided on a 5km circular route through the historic hunting forest in Takeley, with the chance to see plenty of flora and fauna along the way as well as show off those wild and wacky wellies.

Community relations manager Angela Lodge said: "Helen Rollason welly walks are a huge success and to be able to roll one out in this area is fantastic.

"We are really looking forward to seeing all those jazzy and colourful wellies on the day – all styles, colours and shapes are welcome on this walk and the more diverse they are the better."

People of all ages are welcome to join the Welly Walk, which will start and finish at the Shell House car park. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome however the route is unsuitable for buggies or wheelchairs as it will cover some uneven and muddy ground.

It is hoped the event will raise thousands of pounds for the Helen Rollason charity, which receives limited funding and relies heavily on the support of the community.

Through sponsored events like the Welly Walk, the charity, which opened a new cancer support centre in Sawbridgeworth at the end of last year, is able to continue providing its vital services as well as research into the disease.

Angela added: "We are really looking forward to having as many people from the area support us as possible.

It’s going to be a great morning out for all the family. We look forward to seeing you there."

Registration for the Welly Walk is £10 for adults (concessions £5) and free for children under 16. For more information or to sign up, call 01245 514325, visit the Helen Rollason shop in Bell Street, Sawbridgeworth, or download a form here.
