Party hair at Saks Royston

1 of 3

On the hunt for a glamorous party ‘do’, Lydia Fallon popped into award-winning salon Saks for some inspiration

Blessed with fairly long locks, the world could be my oyster when it comes to different styles but I always tend to play it safe. I was determined that this year I would find a show-stopping style that would be sure to turn heads. The lovely Jo - my hairdresser in shining armour - took on the task.

After some deliberation, we decided that an up-do would be the perfect choice – oozing sophistication but still with a touch of subtle festive glamour.  Jo started by using GHDs to curl the hair, keeping the waves loose and bouncy. When all the hair had been curled, Jo back-combed the top section for that extra bit of height, a key ingredient for a successful party style.

A side-bun has been a popular choice on the catwalks this year, but Jo was keen to add an alternative twist to the standard bun. She French plaited the front sections of hair, securing them at the back and then swept the remainder of the hair into a low side ponytail, plaiting small sections and twisting into a bun.

After a whole lot of grips, twisting and hairspray, the style was finished and I fell head-over-heels in love with it. I felt ridiculously glamorous and had to be dragged away from the mirror after spending far too long admiring my locks.  Beautifully intricate, it was classic but the plaits gave it a modern twist. Chic, unique and ever-so fancy – it was the ultimate ‘belle of the ball’ hairstyle.

I left Saks feeling like a real-life fairytale princess, now all I need for is a pumpkin carriage, a couple of footmen and my other shoe….
