Tried and tested lip gloss

On the hunt for a gloss to plump up her pout ahead of the Christmas party season, Lydia Fallon gets lippy…

Pucker up!
Pucker up!

Barry M strawberry milkshake lip gloss, £4.49, www.barrym.com

I’m always a sucker for a tasty gloss and this strawberry milkshake flavour was delicious. But unfortunately (maybe due to licking my lips too much!) it didn’t last as long as some of the others and needed reapplying every couple of hours. But I loved the Barbie pink shade and subtle shimmer, which could easily be worn day or night.

Bourjois smile enhancing gloss, £8.99, Boots

This duo lip gloss contained a tooth-brightening effect gel one end and a lip gloss the other and I was intrigued to see what it had to offer, I mean who doesn’t long for a ‘dazzling Hollywood smile’? But I have to say it left me a tad disappointed. The gloss is easy to apply and fairly long-lasting, if a little too sticky but the gel just didn’t seem to have much of an effect. Yes it tastes good and leaves you with minty fresh breath, which is always a plus point, but I could see no visible whitening/brightening effect. So anyone looking for a quick-fix to whiter teeth, I suggest you get to the dentist!

Clinique Superbalm Moisturising Gloss, £13.50, Debenhams

For someone, like myself, who suffers with dry lips this gloss is perfect. It has the moisturising qualities of a lipbalm but the glamour and shine of a gloss, leaving my lips super soft. It comes in loads of vibrant colours (raspberry is my favourite), so you can opt for a subtle daytime shade or vamp it up at night. For those who prefer less shine, this one is very glossy but it has great staying power, lasting throughout the day. At £13.50 it is pricey but I think it it is worth forking out for.
