Spurs Christmas gifts for sick children
Players from Tottenham Hotspur Football club descended on Princess Alexandra Hospital to deliver Christmas gifts to sick and unwell children.
Goalkeeper Brad Friedel and midfielders Steven Pienaar and Danny Rose all visited the Dolphin Ward.
Each young patient was given a Christmas present which the players helped to open whilst chatting with them and their families.
Brad Friedel said: “We’ve seen sick children as young as five months old, all the way up to the age of 15, hopefully each one of these children will get to go home and spend Christmas with their families.
“People talk about pressure in football, but when you come into places like this it makes the pressures of football seem almost meaningless. We hope we can bring a bit of happiness into their day as nobody likes being in a hospital bed, it’s the least we can do.”
Cora O’Leary, ward manager for Dolphin Ward, said: “By the time the players arrived the atmosphere had reached fever pitch and everyone, including the staff, were very excited. The visit went well, leaving the ward on a real high for Christmas. ”
