HERTS police have confirmed the body found in the River Stort on Saturday, December 26 was that of missing 13-year-old schoolboy Jordan Trowsdale.
The Year 9 pupil at Birchwood High School went missing on Christmas Eve and was last seen at the skatepark in the Causeway at 5.45pm, before he set off home in the dark in treacherous conditions.
After an extensive search of the town throughout the night on December 24 and during Christmas Day, a body was dragged from the Stort by a specialist underwater search team just after 1pm on Boxing Day (Saturday, December 26). Tracker dogs and the Herts police helicopter were also involved in the search for the youngster.
A police spokesman said: "A specially trained family liaison officer is with Jordan's family, supporting them at this difficult time.
"In the meantime the investigation into what happened still continues, although at this stage we believe that nothing sinister has taken place.
"A post-mortem to establish cause of death is not expected to take place until Tuesday next week."
In the meantime, officers made it clear that Jordan's mum Fiona, who had made a Christmas Day appeal for her son's safe return, and the rest of his family were too upset to comment.
After he disappeared, hundreds of Jordan's friends joined internet groups dedicated to finding him, but after the grim discovery of the body, more than a thousand pals came together on the web to pay tribute to his memory. A YouTube tribute to him was also created and can be seen above.
One Facebook page said: "Jordan Trowsdale was such a lovely person. He'd never fail to make someone smile. He only ever wanted people to be happy. Now that he's gone, there's always going to be a gap."
The loss of the schoolboy follows the death of 17-year-old Jordan Wickersham earlier this month. She drowned in a channel of the Stort after the car she was a passenger in crashed into the river in Spellbrook.
Although she was not a Birchwood pupil, she lived in Plaw Hatch Close, close to the Parsonage Lane secondary, and was a friend of many of the students who are now also mourning Jordan Trowsdale.
Anyone with information about Jordan Trowsdale's disappearance is urged to contact police on 0845 33 00 222.
Bands from Bishop's Stortford will make their own muscial tribute to tragic teen Jordan Trowsdale in two very special gigs early next year.
Cash raised by the concerts will go to the youngster's family - or charities nominated by them. Supporters also hope some of the cash
will fund safety measures along the River Stort, where Jordan perished in some of the worst weather this year.
The first performance by Form, Forseen Prophecies, STD, Liar Liar and a range of other bands will take place on January 29 at the Half Moon pub in North Street from 7,30pm. The second will kick off at Northgate youth centre on February 13 at the same time.
