AN ECO-town showdown with Housing Minister Caroline Flint has been brokered by Uttlesford's Tory MP Sir Alan Haselhurst.
He will be accompanied at the Westminster meeting by the district council's Conservative leader Councillor Jim Ketteridge and the authority's environment committee chairman Councillor Susan Barker - despite both being blamed for the current planning controversy.
Campaigners from Henham and Elsenham Save our Villages protest group are also hopeful of a seat at the table as they seek to persuade the Labour politico that bids for an eco-town at Elsenham - and on the district's border at Hanley Grange - should be scrapped and existing housing allocation demands should be dropped.
At a sometimes stormy environment committee meeting last night (Tuesday, June 17) to discuss opposition to the schemes for thousands of homes, Cllr Ketteridge said he was also hopeful that Ms Flint could be persuaded to come to Uttlesford to see for herself how large-scale development could destroy its rural character.
