Ryanair to bid for Stansted?

By Web Reporter
CONTROVERSIAL chief of Ryanair Michael O'Leary is rumoured to be interested in buying Stansted Airport.

The potential take-over bid was reported by the Daily Telegraph last Friday, but the low-cost carrier has declined to comment officially and on Monday the general view was that he was joking.

The Dublin-based airline boss told the broadsheet he believed the current Competition Commission investigation into BAA's ownership of the South East's airports would conclude the alleged monopoly should be ended and at least one of the assets sold off.

He concluded that would be the golden opportunity to bid around £2billion for Stansted, where Ryanair is already the biggest airline - however other experts have already speculated that could cause further competition scrutiny.
