Stansted hijacker 'working at Heathrow'

By Sinead Holland
ONE of the nine Afghan hijackers who held plane passengers hostage at Stansted Airport is now working at Heathrow as a cleaner, it was claimed today (Friday, May 16).

Nazamuddin Mohammidy was one of a group who took over an internal Afghan flight in 2000 and forced it to land in the UK, where they threatened to kill those on board unless they were granted asylum.

The Ariana Airlines Boeing 727, with 160 passengers, was diverted to Stansted, which is designated for such high-security incidents.

There was a four-day stand-off before the gang, who claimed they faced Taliban persecution, gave themselves up.

They were jailed for their part in the hijack, but those convictions were later quashed by the Court of Appeal.

The Daily Mail claims that Mohammidy has been living in Hounslow, Middlesex, with his family and has spent months employed by a firm that has a contract to clean a British Airways training centre at Heathrow.

The tabloid alleges that when police pulled him in Mohammidy was then arrested for breaching bail conditions over an assault charge. He has since appeared in court and been bailed again until May 19.
