Stortford schools decision delayed

By Sandra Perry
THE crunch decision on whether two Bishop's Stortford secondary schools should be allowed to move to a shared Green Belt site on the edge of town has been delayed.

East Herts District Council said this afternoon (Tuesday, September 23) that it needed more time to assess all the information and the 1,000 responses so far to the proposal from The Bishop's Stortford High and Herts & Essex High.

The authority's development control committee had set October 16 for a special meeting to determine the governors' project for 50 acres off Whittington Way.

Cabinet member responsible for planning, Cllr Malcolm Alexander, said: "We must ensure that this application is given very careful and thorough consideration and that all of the material submitted and issues raised receive close scrutiny. In this instance a longer period for consideration is entirely appropriate."

A new date has not yet been set but is expected to be before Christmas.
