Cllrs John Barfoot (Bishop's Stortford East) and Colin Woodward (Bishop's Stortford West) have each allocated £250 from their locality budgets to Stortford in Bloom for the creation of a floral display in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Stortford in Bloom is a voluntary organisation which designs and looks after public planting throughout Bishop's Stortford. Planting of the floral display, which will be in the castle gardens, will take place in spring 2012.

The councillors said: "This will be a wonderful attraction, bringing much pleasure to residents and visitors, as well as being a focal point for the town's celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee."

A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in their area.

Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire. For information on how to apply for funding under the scheme, visit www.hertsdirect.org/localitybudgets.
