Globetrotting Charli XCX set for festival

By Katie Rowley
HAVING started her music career in the back room of the Half Moon pub, Bishop’s Stortford musician Charli XCX has come a long way.

Generating quite a reputation for herself in the London underground music scene, she is now setting her sights on even bigger ventures - and having played in Munich and recently returned from a successful trip to the

Snowbombing festival in Mayrhofen, Austria, music fans are likely to hear a lot more from her.

She will be putting in an appearance on home soil when she performs at the Stortford Music Festival on May 3.

The Snowbombing festival, her most prestigious gig to date, saw Charli XCX support the headline acts Reverend and the Makers and Biffy Clyro as she played at the central arena in front of hundreds of hedonistic, fancy-dressed revellers.

“Amazing! It was a non-stop party and I completely loved it!” she said. “We partied with the TBX DJs and Goldierocks, which was awesome, and I got to play on the main stage - it was brilliant.”

The festival provided a unique mix of sun, snow and wild party antics, featuring world-class DJs and acts including Annie Nightingale, Zane Lowe, Dizzee Rascal, The View and the best new artists, including Ladyhawke, Noisettes and Mr Hudson.

Charli XCX described her performances as “a trip into wonderland”, drawing her inspiration from a diverse range of backgrounds. She creates an infectious mix of electro-grime nursery rhyme full of colourful, energetic fun, aiming to “release people’s inner child, to connect with the audience and make them bounce!”

The talented musician writes her own music and lyrics, while also making time to pursue her other creative outlets: “I’m into making a lot of silent films at the moment and I’m working on a music video for a friend's band.”
