Workers at Coopers of  Stortford in Bridge Street raised over £350 with a homemade cake sale for two-year-old Abigail Pike, who has advanced liver cancer.

Spokesman Graham Burgess said: “The team brought in a huge variety of cupcakes, Victoria sponges, muffins and chocolate cakes - enough to fill two tables.

“These were on sale during the breaks and with the team raising just over £350.  The cheque was presented to Abigail’s parents Gary and Becky with the hope that in some small way it will help bring as much joy and long lasting memories as possible.”

Abigail was diagnosed with cancer when she was just 16-months-old and the disease took hold in her heart and lungs too.

Despite the best efforts of staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital and aggressive treatment to eradicate the tumours and clear the way for a liver transplant, Mr and Mrs Pike had to face the devastating news that nothing more can be done to beat the disease.

Becky, 38, from Benfleet, told the Observer after Dunmow Road firm Cornelius raised £1,180 for the family with a Christmas party: “We’ve decided as parents we are going to make her life the best we can.

“At the moment we’re jam-packing into a month what we would have planned to do over five years. It really helps us to see her happy.”

Like husband Gary, 37, she has taken a leave of absence from work and the pair will use the cash raised by both companies to make Abigail’s dreams come true in the precious time they have left, with a trip to Disneyland Paris at the top of their wish list.
