A ROMAN invasion is coming to Bishop's Stortford and Dunmow this weekend.
On Sunday (May 19) 20 plus cyclists including a pedal-powered chariot (pictured) will pass through both towns en route to Colchester, having left Beaumaris in Anglesey last Sunday (May 12).
The ‘Battle of Watling Street’, as it has been dubbed, is a sponsored cycle event organised by the Colchester Forum Rotary Club in aid of the World Wide Rotary ‘End Polio Now’ campaign which is close to its target of eliminating the disease across the globe.
Bishop’s Stortford Rotarian Paul Harvey featured in the Observer recently after he and his wife Pat travelled to India to take part in the immunisation of children in the village of Raja Rijola, Uttar Pradesh. Together with two other teams 500 children were vaccinated that day.
It is expected that the cyclists and chariot will be travelling through Stortford town around 11am. They have a checkpoint at Takeley's Jubilee Hall at noon.
