SKIPPER Tom Coleman is looking for an improvement from his Bishop’s Stortford Rugby side when they take on lowly Bracknell away in National League 3 London and South East this Saturday (February 25).
Stortford go into the match on the back of a 23-13 home win against London Irish last Saturday.
Although Stortford scored three tries and generally tackled well they were lucky the Irish were not more ruthless.
The Middlesex-based team were guilty of dropping passes in good positions and poor decision making which robbed them of tries.
Coleman said: “It was not our best performance against London Irish. They could have scored more tries and we need to tighten up as a team.
“Bracknell will have a forwards orientated game like London Irish and we will make sure we are ready for it.”
He added: "They will be desperate to win. They need to win. Our training is governed by who we are playing next.”
There is the chance of Stortford equalling the 14 consecutive wins that the Silver Leys team of 1987/88 set.
Coleman said he and his team are not bothered by the record but more concerned about the present.
Stortford are in fourth position but just two points behind second place Ampthill and the race is hotting up for the runners-up spot.
He said: “We have not discussed it and you cannot compare different eras. I am sure that Stortford were then a very good team.
“I would be more disappointed to lose against Bracknell than not equalling the record.”
Coleman is never happy to sit on past performances and is always striving to improve as a fly-half.
He had a hand in two of the tries against London Irish but was unhappy with his performance.
Coleman added: “I kicked poorly and missed some easy kicks to touch. I made some rushed decisions.
“I have got a responsibility to give a captain's performance. I have to improve my performance.”
