STANSTED Airport is at the forefront of a new tourism campaign to encourage departing passengers to boomerang back to the region.
BAA has joined forces with Visit Essex and London & Partners to highlight local attractions in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.
The “Hello, Hello” campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the tourist attractions within easy travelling distance of the airport.
Paul Haynes, airline route and marketing manager for Stansted, said: “As well as being able to find out about some of the hidden treasures around Essex and London, passengers have the chance to win a fantastic Essex and London mini-break.
“With less than a year to go before the Olympics, it’s all part of our effort to promote local tourism within our catchment area, ensuring the economic benefits of Stansted are realised.”
Outbound passengers are being targeted with leaflets in a bid to encourage them to fly back and make the most of what London and Essex have to offer, highlighting the delights of Colchester, Chelmsford and Southend as well as London for entertainment and culture.
A Roman soldier visited the airport terminal to distribute flyers.
Elli Constantatou, marketing and public relations manager of Visit Essex, said: “Located on the doorstep of London and the Olympic Park, Essex is the ideal place for people to stay and explore our fabulous places to visit whilst enjoying the greatest show on Earth.
“The undulating Essex countryside, with picturesque villages and beautiful gardens, the stunning coastline, over 350 miles long, and our rich heritage will ensure that visitors can have an unforgettable time.”
Louisa Myers, leisure tourism and marketing manager UK for London & Partners, said: “We’re coming up to an incredibly exciting time for London as we count down one year to go until the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“There’s so much to see and do in the capital from culture, entertainment, shopping and eating out, which are a great complement to the fantastic range of attractions across Essex.”
