With 16 games left, there is a total of 48 points available.

Stringer, whose side visit a famous old Football League ground, The Shay, when they take on FC Halifax Town in Blue Square Bet North this Saturday, said: “We need 48 or 50 points to be safe from relegation. We should win enough games to stay in this division.

“The bottom two, Blyth and Eastwood, have a lot of work to do. It is the third team [that has to be settled],” he added.

The Blues boss says his team need to grow up and show more strength of chracter to beat the drop.

Stortford lacked the physical edge required against another Yorkshire side, Harrogate Town, when the teams met at Woodside Park 12 days ago (a 4-3 reverse).

Stortford’s frustrated boss said: “They bullied us a bit.”

Centre-half Sean Francis (hamstring) is doubtful. “We are small and when you lose Sean Francis it’s not going to be an advantage for you,” said Stringer.

Skipper Reece Prestedge will also miss the clash at third-placed Halifax.

The midfielder is serving the second of a two-match suspension after he picked up 10 bookings.

Stortford coach Colin Reid said: “We need to get a result. It was important to get a point against Workington and not go there [to Halifax] after two defeats.

“If you cannot get up for this game, you cannot get up for any game.”

He added: “We have done well on the road and won three games [out of three away games]. The pressure will be on them.”
