TIDY Up Bishop’s Stortford (TUBS) volunteers are continuing their campaign to make the town spick and span.

The first clear-up event planned for 2013 is a litter pick which will take place on Saturday January 12 with volunteers meeting up at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club at 10am.

Ian Hudson, TUBS co-ordinator, said: “I am pleased to be able to co-ordinate this group of local residents who are prepared to give a couple of hours every other month to make the town a cleaner place.

“We will be clearing an area from the M11 roundabout to Dunmow Road and the ring road – we welcome new volunteers.

“We will be repeating the exercise in other areas of the town later in the year.”

Prospective volunteers can find out more about TUBS and the group’s tidy up Stortford plans by visiting  www.tubs12.info

Why is it no cares to comment on the people dropping the litter in the first place? Perhaops if there was more community spirit and less "let someone else do it" attitude we would not have a litter problem at all?

Captain ****, the job should be done by Councillors so they qualify in earning their allowances, pensions and free parking! If the criminal fraternity were responsible for running the County and District we might not be any worse off.

I've taken another look at the photo! I didn't recognise Cllr Woodward before the site allowed me to enlarge the picture. He looks totally authentic. Well done.

I have to admit I find it remarkable the number of occasions that Cllr Woodward is able to comment on pieces on this website. For the avoidance of doubt Colin, I was not there at the TUBS day. I do think that Anon's original post which you have responded to referred to the fact that it is a pretty poor show that a voluntary group have needed to form to tidy the place up - particularly given that surely part of the money provided by council tax payers should go towards general maintenance of Bishop's Stortford and litter / street waste collection. To turn the tables and say "Didn't see you there" is really quite childish and misses the post's original point entirely.

Colourbounce - There have been many reports with references to TUBS on this site. Do a quick search for "Tidy Up Bishop's Stortford".

I think this sort of work should be done by the work shy and benifit cheats and tax dodgers. Or convicted criminals chain gang style

Cllr Woodward, On your Twitter you have written "I'll have to pass on this date but others very welcome". Posted 05.15 2 Jan. Are you telling porkies Cllr Woodward?

Colin, your attention to detail says it all. This is the first report I've ever seen about TUBS and you question Anon about his non attendence for an event that takes place in 9 days time. God help us.

  • Elizabeth.Reeve  |  January 03 2013, 10:04AM

And Anon - did you care enough to be with us there?

  • Elizabeth.Reeve  |  January 02 2013, 1:27PM

Just proves East Herts Council cannot do the job we pay them to do. Well done TUBS. Proves there are enough people still who do care.
