THE Waterlounge bar in Bishop's Stortford will reopen under new management as the ‘Water Lane’ bar in spring 2014, it has been announced this afternoon (Thursday, October 31).

The new owners of the building, which is in Water Lane, are Anglian Country Inns (ACI).

They purchased the site for over £1m and say it will be "refurbished to accommodate a 100 cover restaurant featuring a fresh local food concept".

ACI own four other eateries in the East of England, as well as a microbrewery, and their Stortford venue will be similar to their "state of the art bar" in Hitchin - Hermitage Rd.

Director of food at ACI Harry Kodagoda said: "We are really excited about this new venture in historic Bishop's Stortford.

"The town has a great feel for us and the building in Water Lane has amazing original features and character to accommodate our exciting ideas.

"It will be well suited for our fresh food offer where we plan to incorporate lots of local produce and seafood from our fishermen friends in north Norfolk."

Today's announcement confirms the Waterlounge's closure, as reported earlier this week by the Observer.
