Hatfield Forest fundraiser for Macmillan

Written bySINEAD HOLLAND

A MASS walk raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support is coming to Hatfield Forest.

The event, supported by Boots UK, will have two routes of three miles and eight miles, so everyone can take part whatever their age and level of fitness. Walkers are challenged to raise £150 or more.

Laura Bazzoni, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in East Herts and West Essex, said: “This summer, join us for a big, beautiful sponsored walk to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and our involvement with the Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre in Stevenage.

"Bring the kids, brothers, sisters, the girls at work - gather all the people who warm your life for a lovely day out in the fresh air. Get ready to soak up the incredible atmosphere and know that you’ll be taking part in something special - walking to make sure no one has to face cancer alone.”

Miles for Macmillan is a series of sponsored walks and the Hatfield Forest event take place on Saturday, September 14.

Laura added: “Macmillan provides vital cancer support services and we rely on donations to fund them. Furthermore, if you live in North or East Hertfordshire, your sponsorship can go directly towards helping us pay for the new cancer centre for patients at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, planned to open in 2014. This centre could give a mum who’s found out she’s just got breast cancer a steadying hand. It could be the place where someone will help her cope with chemo, provide a listening ear when she’s frightened and support her with getting back to normal afterwards."

The Hatfield Forest event is one of nine Miles for Macmillan walks taking place around the UK, including one taking place at Regent’s Park in London on 31st August.

To register call 0300 1000 200 or go to macmillan.org.uk/walks Participants will receive a sponsorship pack. Find out more about the new cancer centre at the Lister Hospital by going to macmillan.org.uk/lister
