Heels and gravel don't mix

By Claire Ellis
CLAIRE Ellis runs a local personal styling company Mirror Image. She runs her business on the belief that great style is not just about fashion trends or designer clothes, but about having a workable wardrobe that does three vital things; reflects your personality, suits your lifestyle, and makes you look your best 100% of the time.

BEAUTIFUL, leg lengthening, high heels (BLLHH). Like many of you (men and women) I can’t live without them. Yes, they damage your feet and bunions are not attractive – Victoria Beckham take note. Yes, they shorten your calf muscles, as I recently found out at a body balance class when I tried to touch my toes.
Diary Of A Clothes HorseBut these are expected pitfalls of the BLLHH. So, why should I even consider living without them? It’s simple: GRAVEL. Gravel and heels do not make good friends. It’s a bit like broken glass and tyres – it’s NEVER going to work. Gravel wasn’t really an issue as a townie, with lovely smooth concrete between you and the car, but this townie has now moved… to the countryside.

Here gravel seems to be the only thing between you, mud and the car. Obviously gravel is better than mud but have you ever tried to walk on tip toes in heels across the stuff? It’s frightening, but faced with gravel it’s the only way to protect your heels from the kind of serious damage that leads to passing them on to your sister-inlaw. Picture the scene “Please take them, it breaks my heart, but the gravel... they deserve so much more.”

This cannot happen, I need my heels. They stop my jeans dragging on the floor, they maxi my maxi dress, and a knee skimming skirt without them? Unthinkable.

What’s the solution then?

Park the car closer to the house.

I call it townie logic.
