WITH the royal wedding just a few weeks away, why not stock up with a couple of bottles to toast the occasion?
Sainsbury’s has a number of good offers at the moment, including the crisp and tasty Clos Monistrol Vintage Cava at two for £10 (usually £12.99 each), or Etienne Dumont Brut NV Champagne at just £14,99 (from £29.99), a very acceptable Champagne and incredibly good value at this price.
The warm weather calls for a refreshing white, and Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc, with its zingy gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours, is a good choice – on offer at two for £10 (usually £9.49 each) at Sainsbury’s. A great accompaniment to fish, chicken, salad and lighter meals. Also on offer at two for £10 is Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Petit Chablis from France, crisp and minerally, with a hint of green apples, perfect with shellfish and summer dishes.
For a bargain Pinot Grigio, try Torretta Mondelli, Italy, at £4.49 (from £8.99) at Sainsbury’s; and for something to accompany richer foods such as fresh tuna steaks or creamy risotto, Sainsbury’s has McGuigan Bin 56 Chardonnay at £4.99 from £9.99.
No doubt we’re all reaching for the rose in this heatwave, and Sainsbury’s has a couple of value wines worth trying, especially for a party – Rio Vida Tempranillo Rosado, Spain, £4.49 (from £5.99) – quite deep in colour, deep strawberry and cherry fruit, but a crisp finish; or own-label Australian Shiraz Rose at £4.59.
And finally on the red side, Bouchard Aine & Fils Pinot Noir is a lighter wine but with nicely balanced flavour – £4.65 (from £6.99) at Sainsbury’s; or for a heartier red, the store has Era Costana Rioja Crianza, Spain, at £4.99 (from £10.99) – a great opportunity to sample this cherry and strawberry-packed bottle, delicious with herby or slightly spicy foods.
