TONGUE-in-cheek rockers The Barron Knights will be rolling back the years at Rhodes on Friday night (Feb 10).
The band, who had a string of chart hits parodying popular songs of the day throughout the 60s and 70s, will crack open a barrel of laughs with original member and bass guitarist Peter Langford at the Bishop’s Stortford venue.
While their profile never scaled the same heights as their contemporaries, their connections to rock ‘n’ roll royalty are many.
Former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman was inspired to pick up the bass after watching the Knights in action in 1961, while 1967 hit single Lazy Fat People was a collaboration between The Who guitarist and notorious hellraiser Pete Townshend.
Their 1964 track Call Up The Groups, which imagined famous bands being forced to join the Army, also struck a blow for artistic freedom – the quintet got their spoof track published after a lengthy struggle over the countless copyrights it infringed.
The show opens at 8pm and tickets are £16.50. To find out more, see www.rhodesbishopsstortford.org.uk or ring (01279) 651746.
