Welcome return for Four Poofs

CAMP cabaret superstars Four Poofs and a Piano are making a welcome return less than a year after their first visit.

The quartet, who gave an interview to the Observer in the run-up to their debut outing at Rhodes last March, are trekking back to perform at High Barn on Saturday (Feb 11).

Founded as a tongue-in-cheek outfit by four gay choir singers, the band never aimed for serious success – but after a chance gig at the Groucho Club, they were on the road to fame.

Following the concert, they became Jonathan Ross’s house band in 2001 and stayed with the show until Ross’ departure in 2010.

On April Fool’s Day last year, with the foursome’s Stortford show looming, the Observer website claimed Sir Alex Ferguson – whose Manchester United reserves were due to play in town the same day – was a huge fan and planned to visit the concert.

The tall tale tickled the Poofs pink, with singer Dave Wickenden commenting: “We loved this! What a laugh. All I can say is watch out for transfer season!”

Their High Barn show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £29. See www.high-barn.com or ring (01371) 811291.
