FOR this month we thought we would try ‘Energy’ as the theme. This can be interpreted again quite widely and could be a burning match, a thunderstorm, someone running up some stairs or a plate of food.
Whatever you choose for your final image be aware of all the key points that this year’s winners have observed and introduced.
Start with considering the light and exposure and then look at the angle from the camera to the subject. Remember that a high or very low approach will change the final result considerably. Use alternative shutter speeds to either capture the movement with a fast shutter speed if the light’s good enough or use a slow shutter speed to introduce blur which can sometimes be a better way of demonstrating moving objects.
The light is now getting lower in the sky so watch out for long shadows which could be either a problem or a gift. As long as you’re aware of everything which will have a supportive role in the final result then you’ll be on your way to a better picture.
The winner will be selected by Catchlight Photography. If you’d like to learn more about photography with their ‘One to One Personal Workshops’ visit http://www.catchlightphotographers.co.uk/ and go to ‘Photography Workshops’.
The closing date for entries in the end of October. The winner will be announced in the Observer.
Send your entry in using the form below, making sure you fill in every field. NO MORE THAN FIVE PHOTOGRAPHS WILL BE PUBLISHED FROM ANY ONE PERSON PER MONTH.
