CULT stand-up Bob Mills is coming back to the Observer area for the launch of Bishop’s Stortford’s newest comedy night.

The former In Bed With MeDinner frontman, who hosted a string of ITV prime-time shows in the 1990s and more recently wrote an episode of hit Channel 4 comedy-drama Shameless, will be headling the event at Scorch.

On the last Wednesday of every month, the Southmill Road nightclub will be welcoming three comedians as part of its Comedy Club evenings, which will also offer pub grub and table service.

Mills, who appeared at JRs – now The Waterlounge – in 2010, shot to fame with In Bed With Me Dinner in 1992, in which he provided a funny and often surreal commentary to clips from other TV shows.

He’ll be supported by charming young award-winner Rudi Lickwood, whose CV includes warm-up stints for shows like Top Gear and The Weakest Link – and who was recently praised by The Guardian as “irresistible… he’s going to be massive”.

The evening will be hosted by Karen Bayley, who is a former sidekick of fellow Midlander Susan Murray. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £10 in advance (£16 with meal) or £12 entry on the night.
