Former Dons midfielder on trial at Stortford

By Alan Scott

Bishop’s Stortford res 0, Concord Rangers 1
(Capital League, eastern division)

TRIALIST midfielder Nick McKoy played for Bishop’s Stortford reserves in the 1-0 defeat at home to Concord Rangers on Wednesday (August 19).

McKoy, 6ft 3ins, has been released by Grays Athletic and has previously played for Wimbledon and MK Dons, Torquay United and Cardiff City.

However, he did little to suggest he could challenge either Ben Bowditch, Max Lette Jallow or Tom Champion for a place in the first team.

Jamie Silvester was also on trial for Blues.

Concord scored the only goal after 19 minutes when Jason Fontaine’s long-range shot beat Blues keeper Ben Stone.

Ellis Remi went close with several chances for Stortford.

The closest was on 80 minutes when the Concord keeper made a great save from Remi’s shot.

The side was mainly made up of young players plus first team squad players midfielder Rory Hill, defender Ben Nunn, right-back Ritchie Jones and first team boss Mark Simpson’s son Charlie Simpson, who is also on loan at Harlow Town.

One concern to Simpson will be the groin injury to Hill which forced him off after nearly an hour.

BISHOP’S STORTFORD RES: Stone, Nunn, Llewellyn, McKoy, R. Jones, Sintim, Hill (Coley 64), Craston (Simon 75), Remi, Silvester (Owe-Banjo 58), C. Simpson. Subs not used: Greenwood (gk), Sargent.
